De Nieuwe Schatkamer – The New Treasure Room of the Dutch National Bank

In the heart of Amsterdam, the historic vault of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has been transformed into an innovative cultural space: De Nieuwe Schatkamer (The New Treasure Room). A place where the public can explore, learn, and engage with fundamental topics such as gold, money, and the economy.

Spread over three floors, the exhibition journey tells the story of the central bank’s role through permanent and temporary displays, historical artifacts, and interactive installations. The exhibition design takes visitors on a journey through current issues such as the housing market, cybercrime, and money laundering.

Lighting in the service of knowledge

The lighting challenge for this project required precise and versatile solutions. The requirements included:

  • Excellent color rendering to enhance every detail of the numismatic collection and exhibited objects
  • Compact fixtures to fit within the limited ceiling heights
  • DMX control for dynamic and flexible lighting management

To meet these needs, Revo 230 series projectors were used in various versions (all at 3000K), installed on three-phase tracks with DMX control. This configuration ensured perfect technical and aesthetic integration within a complex and varied environment.

An inspiring and relaxed atmosphere

Lighting plays a key role in the visitor experience: it creates a welcoming environment that invites calm and focus. Each area is subtly enhanced, without distraction, guiding the eye to the right places.

The final result is an engaging, informative, and elegant exhibition, where light becomes a tool for storytelling and knowledge.
